DWW presents at the Health Education England Conference

Doctors Worldwide was pleased to host the afternoon session of the Health Education England Conference in Rugby on the 2nd April 2019. The theme of the event was ‘Healthcare at Scale’ and DWW spoke to approximately 250 GP trainees about global healthcare, humanitarianism, volunteering, and how they could get involved.

Our trustee Dr Najeeb Rahman began by talking about humanitarian principles and his own experiences working in a humanitarian aid setting. Dr Andrew Charlton, who has been working as medical faculty for DWW in Bangladesh, spoke about the concept of volunteerism and the skills and competencies required for this. Our project co-ordinator for the PGF in Bangladesh, Georgia Venner, concluded DWW’s session by giving an overview of the project and the cluster approach to health programming.

The trainees enjoyed the session, saying it was ‘inspiring, thought provoking and made me think about the wider role of a GP’ and many commented that they would now investigate humanitarian volunteering opportunities overseas, which they were not aware of as an option before.

We would like to thank Health Education England for inviting us to speak at this fantastic event and we hope to work with them again soon.
