Ebola Partnership Project: Sierra Leone

Ebola: Doctors Worldwide UK and King’s College partner on Ebola to support the response in Sierra Leone.

Doctors Worldwide is please to announce its work with King’s College Sierra Leone Partnership (KSLP). KSLP is an academic Centre within King’s College, London and has been working at the main Connaught Government Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone well before the outbreak earlier in 2014.

Staffed by UK volunteer medics and other health professionals, they are doing a fantasic job in supporting the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and the Connaught Hospital.

At the Connaught Government Hospital, KSLP has set up an 11-bed isolation facility and worked with MSF and WHO to write a Ebola preparedness and clinical management plan which was then disseminated across the country. The team has also been advising 29 other hospitals in the Western Area on the Ebola response.

DWW will provide additional volunteers, expertise and donations to support the work there.

Read this great article in the Guardian on Will Pooley, the first UK ebola patient and volunteer nurse, currently at KSLP in Freetown.

We need your help.

Donations – Funding is needed to support local staff and volunteers to ensure basic Ebola response items are on hand and available. These include clean pillows and bedding for patients, chlorine dispensers and scrubs.

Volunteers – We need volunteer medics and nurses to spend a minimum of 1 month in Sierra Leone. It is a voluntary position but support will be provided to cover expenses such as flights, accommodation, insurance and visas depending on which implementing partner you are placed with (KSLP, WHO).
